Human Rights Council Resolution 'Human Rights and Access to Water'

In November 2006, the Human Rights Council passed resolution 60/251 entitled 'Human Rights and Access to Water'.

The Council requested that the Office of the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights conduct a study on:

"the scope and content of the relevant human rights obligations related to equitable access to safe drinking water and sanitation under international human rights instruments".
The study will be presented to the 6th session of the Council in late September 2007. The draft resolution was put forward by Algeria, Belgium, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Cyprus, Ecuador, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mali, Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Timor-Leste and Uruguay.
